| Ernst wins AGAIN at Goldpan Speedway |
|
The sun shone brightly over Goldpan Speedway in Quesnel Saturday afternoon to the delight of racers and fans alike after suffering through rainouts in the prior three races of the 2004 WESCAR OKTire Challenge Series as they tour northern B.C. Lee Thomas in the Cloverdale Paint #38 captures fast time with a 15.790 with Brett Young in the Leavitt Machinery #0 close behind with a 15.851. The field of 12 cars is separated by only 0.874 seconds with the six fastest only separated by a tenth of a second. Wescar competition is heating up as we enter the last half of the season. The WESCAR wheel was spun with it landing on a full inversion, Bill McNabb #33 who would have been put in the pole position elects to start from the back of the pack so the #72 Dennis Adelman captures the pole with #94 Corey Price on the outside of the front row. The green flag waves to start the OKTire 100 and seven laps are run when the #17 Leonard Wilnechenko gets together with the #52 Garnet Grimard and the fast qualifier #38 Lee Thomas gets caught up in the incident in turn 1 with no place to go. The race restarts on lap 14 with #72 Adelman holding off a hard charging #23 Peter Ernst. A total of 23 laps are run under four caution flags. On lap 17 #23 Ernst gets past #72 Adelman and stretches out a lead of over 8 seconds with the #72 in second. On lap 40, #27 Arnie Kunka moves around #72 Adelman but an incident on the front straight on lap 41 allows Brett Young #0 to move into 3rd. On lap 51 #0 Young battles past the #27 Kunka and holds the position until lap 74 when #27 Kunka uses a restart after a caution to slip back into 2nd past #0 Young. Peter Ernst in his Fountain Tire Chev takes advantage of the #27 and #0 challenging each other to scoot off to another 1.1 second lead and they run that way to the finish with #23 Peter Ernst picking up his second win of the 2004 OKTire Challenge series in front of his hometown crowd.
