WESCAR OKTIRE Challenge Series - Cheiftan / Penzoil 100 Results:
September 10, 2005,
PGARA Speedway - Prince George, B.C.
The northern lights shimmered above as the drivers in their cars prepared for what was going to be probably their longest 100 lap race they would ever run in the WESCAR Kumho Tire OKTire Challenge Series.

Earlier in the evening the fast qualifier position was sewn up by Prince George driver Brett Young in his Chieftan Autoparts Fountain Tire Leavitt Machinery #0 Monte Carlo with a 17.140 second laptime. Notably second fastest was Garnet Grimard of Wiliams Lake who was 9 thousandths of a second slower in his NAPA Autoparts #52 Chevy. Only 0.371 seconds separated the top 10 qualifiers.

The WESCAR wheel was spun prior to the main and displayed an 80% inversion. This should have put 10th fastest Luke Forsythe in his Forsythe Ventures #32 on the pole but he elected as a rookie to start from the back of the field of cars. This moved Wayne French in the Lordco Autoparts/Competition Automotive #73 Dodge Avenger to the pole position with the Brandt Tractor #6 Chevy of Sheldon Mayert on the outside of the front row.

Red and yellow flags flew often through the race with 3 red flags and 8 yellows setting a record for the WESCAR series. At one point Lee Thomas in his Lucas Oils #38 brought out a red flag for dropping fluid around the 3/8 mile track dropping him out of the race. Another red flag waved later in the race for the Jocks Excavating #14 Chevy of Ian Black when he slammed the wall hard with the drivers side in turn 3. First aid crews were on scene quickly as a precation but Ian climbed from the car uninjured and a little shaken.

A battle for the lead through the race changed hands a number of times with #73 French, #52 Grimard, #6 Mayert. Mayert was able to battle back for the front position and at time stretch out more than a 3 second lead. When the checkered flag dropped #6 Mayert passed under it first in his Brandt Tractor Chevy with #0 Leavit Machinery Chev of Brett Young in second 2.586 seconds back and #52 NAPA Chevy of Garnet Grimard in third.
