WESCAR OKTIRE Challenge Series - OK Tire 100 Results: June 17, 2006, Goldpan Speedway - Quesnel, B.C. |

The weather threatened the running of the OKTire 100 at Goldpan Speedway in Quesnel Saturday night but held off the rain just long enough to allow the race to be run. Eleven cars made it to the speedway and were prepared to battle on the tight confines of the 1/4mile oval. Last year in September a new track record of 15.278 was set by the #52 of Grimard and drivers this year were saying during pre-qualifying that the old record would fall. As predicted a new record was set by the #0 of Brett Young as he clocked in a 15.193, almost a tenth faster than the old record. Notably, this is the third fast time Brett has earned in 2006 and each time he has shattered the old existing record. All three rookies were in attendance as Chase Larson joined the WESCAR family by driving a car prepared by his father Ronnie Larson who implied he wished he was in the car, he never knew there was so much to do as a crewchief. When the green flag dropped the #92 Darcy McKewon was on the pole with local favaorite #23 Peter Ernst on the outside of the front row. Ernst quickly moved past the 92 on the first lap and was chased by the #38 Lee Thomas and the #5 Bobby Williams. The pack ran that way most of the race until a late race caution came out for the #92 car spinning alone in turn 3. This set up a quick dash for the win with Ernst out front. Neither the #38 in 2nd nor the #5 in 3rd mounted a charge for the win. The #38 may not have wanted to take the chance as he is the current points leader entering this event and no doubt he was looking toward a championship rather than a race win. Chase Larson finished near the back of the field 2 laps down but was successful in his first WESCAR venture bringing the car to the checkered flag with barely a scratch on it. Dave Olson in the #71 never made the main due to engine problems. Fast qualifier Brett Young had difficulties throughout the race with an uncooperative handling car. #52 Grimard had a strong run capturing fourth, happy to put his early season engine woes behind him. Watch for more racing action in the WESCAR OKTire Challenge Series when the teams and their haulers arrive at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Williams Lake on July 1 ,2006. for the fourth race of the series. You can hear races announced live on 99.3 the Drive as they broadcast 5 of the 8 races in the WESCAR OK Tire Challenge Series with Ron St.Clair covering the lap by lap action. Next race to be aired is Aug 5 from Penticton Speedway. |
