| WESCAR + KATANA = BC Stockcar Champion |
+ ![]() = BC Stockcar Champion The WESCAR stockcar association annual general meeting was held at the Ramada Inn in Prince George on Oct 22, 2005. Eleven different drivers from the WESCAR teams along with some crew members and media people attending the meeting. After lengthy discussion on a variety of topics the attendees focused on what the 2006 season would bring. One topic that dominated the discussion was the way to crown a BC stockcar champion from drivers all over the Province of BC. It was decided that there would initially be in the first year of declaring a champion, a set of two race events. Each event would consist of two races. In 2006 the July long weekend will see the CHUCKS AUTO SUPPLY Thunder Mountain Raceway host a Saturday night race and a separate Sunday night race. Points will be earned from these two independent races. Then, a month later, the next event will be held at Penticton Speedway on the August Long weekend. Penticton Speedway will host a Saturday night race and a separate Sunday night race. Points will be earned from these two independant races. The total points earned from these four separate races on two different weekends in two different regions of the province will determine the first ever in recent history, a BC STOCKCAR CHAMPION. Details of the events will be finalized no later than December 15, 2005. A point structure is to be determined by representatives of the KATANA Powerboats Stockcar series and the WESCAR OKTire Challenge Series. Drivers attending the meeting looked forward to this new development which is intended to raise the level of competition in the eyes of the race fans, media and the sponsors. No doubt more media attention will be garnered from a Provincial champion being determined. Broadcast of the races live on the radio and on the internet are a possibility. It is even possible the local SHAW cable people in each town will cover the event. All these details are yet to be worked out. Other details to be negotiated are weight percentage rules, tire and wheel combinations, engine specifications and a few others. Those attending the meeting said the rules of the two different series are very close and indicated that discussion on the topics will happen promptly. I think all race fans will agree that this sort of competition will bring more cars to each race event making for a bigger and better show. It has been said, "It aint a good race unless there is a real big wreck." With car count for an event being predicted in the mid thirties, race fans will probably see that old addage ring true. It may even be worth betting on. Douglas Waller WESCAR Announcer/media rep. 283 Explorer Cres. Prince George, B.C. V2M5R9 ![]() |
